Jasmijn Obispo
Medical Anthropologist & Social Researcher | AMSTERDAM [NL]
Jasmijn Obispo recently received her MSc in Medical Anthropology and Sociology from the Graduate School of Social Sciences (University of Amsterdam). Her work focusses on the anthropological consideration of illicit drug use in nightlife settings. For her master, she conducted ethnographic fieldwork in nightlife settings in various Dutch cities. Building on these findings, she is now looking to expand this research focus.
Since completing her BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences at Leiden University College, The Hague in the summer of 2016, Jasmijn continues to explore her interests in the arts. Her studies gave her the opportunity to reflect critically on different societies and cultures, considering them from an array of angles. Her thesis on ‚The Politics of Pussy Riot and Ai Wei Wei’s Art‘ gave her some perspective on the potential (political) implications of art on society. After developing the new programme line Secretopia at Mediamatic, she went on to work at Tent, a contemporary art centre in Rotterdam. At Mediamtic she is in charge of PR and communication.
